A Danaid’s waking

/ Le réveil d’une danaïde

Mixmedia short-film

The idea for this short film was born when I met La Danaïde, a sculpture by Auguste Rodin inspired by the gestures of Camille Claudel.
Sculpture, a frozen art form, reflects the condition of women: bodies immobilized, crushed by the invisible, shaped by injunctions.
This martyr figure of Patriarchy embodies all those exhausted women. In the film, after being condemned to an eternal gesture, the Danaïde can finally break free from this loop and experience Freedom.
By bringing the sculpture to life, I seek to restore her interiority: a sensitive skin, a body that feels the tools carving into it, the pain, the resistance, the presence. A woman who, at last, begins to exist again.
